Fifty percent of baby foods on grocery store, malls shelves are totally unhealthy
Researchers say that 50 percent of infant and toddler foods at major grocery stores in the United States of America currently fail to reach nutritional recommendations and none meet the World Health Organization’s promotional requirements.
The study’s contributors visited eight stores in Raleigh, North Carolina, including Costco, Kroger, Walmart, Ahold Delhaize, Target, Publix, and Aldi. Two others, H-E-B and Safeway, were not located in the state, and their websites were used to collect the data instead.
In a study published led by The George Institute for Global Health, the authors combed through data on more than 550 infant and toddler food products sold in the top 10 United States grocery chains.
After analysing all of the products among these , a massive 75 percent failed to meet protein requirements and 45 percent exceeded total sugar requirements. One in four products were also unable to meet calorie requirements and one in five exceeded the recommended sodium limits which is a very alarming signal. In fact, some of them have even been marketed as healthy and nutritious. So cross them off your shopping list (or speed-walk past the snack aisles) on your next trip to the grocery store.
Baby food pouches have seen a massive spike in popularity, with a 800 percent increase in sales over the course of the past 10 years. But, fewer than 7 percent of pouches were found to meet total sugar recommendations.The classic elementary school snack item isn’t all its cracked up to be in terms of health. Many of the fruit cup brands use added sugars in their products. For example, one cup of the Dole brand peaches in 100% fruit juice has 18 grams of sugar. To add to the dramatics, one regular peach already has about 13 grams of sugar.

MoneyWise also mentions that many bean cans contain the chemical bisphenol A (BPA) in their interior lining, which can potentially leach into your food. Some research suggests BPA can elevate your obesity risk and even reduce fertility.
